CC DISCUSSES DIALOGUE BETWEEN CIVILIZATIONS

The President of the Consular Corps, the Consul of Lebanon Mr. Kabalan Frangieh invited together with the Consul of Chile Mr. Jose Briceno Oviedo, the Consuls of the Embassies in Warsaw to a lecture on the dialogue between civilizations by the Political Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland Mr. Witold Sobków followed by dinner in the restaurant AleGloria on 14 October 2008.

Mr. Kabalan Frangieh presented the topic and the speaker who is a scholar in international security and Islamic studies and has an extensive knowledge about the dialogue between civilizations. Mr. Sobkow was Under- Secretary of State for European Affairs in 2006 and Ambassador of Poland to Ireland from 2002 to 2006 and now occupies a very high position in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland as the head of the Political Department.

Mr. Sobkow delivered a lecture entitled: "Is the clash between the world of Islam and Western civilisation inevitable?" In his lecture he focused on 7 main themes: Islam, the nation state, fundamentalism, Jihad, the infidels, Globalisation versus jihad, Islamophobia.
